UPDATE: PEARLAND TEXAS CLASSIC!

SUNDAY UPDATE:
The myths and rumors have been put to rest.  The Houston Select White (aka 16s) have once again outlasted their older Houston Select Black (17s) team while playing in the same age bracket.  Thus confirming they are really indeed the better of the Select club teams.  Behind the consistent guard play, the Select White knocked off the defending champion Louisiana Blue Chips to advance into a semi final test against the Los Angeles Dream Team (who beat J Prince Hoopstars in the quarters).   The 1pm semi final game never materialized since LA Dream Team actually had to leave to catch their flight back home.  This gave the young Houston Select White team a pass into the championship game.  In other quarterfinal action, the Texas Blue Chips eliminated the Houston Select Black while the Dallas Mustangs were ousted by host team Houston Elite.

SATURDAY AFTERNOON UPDATE:
Team Breakdown (FL) and the Los Angeles Dream Team will square off in the second round of bracket play.   It’s sad, but one of these teams can sleep as late as they want on Sunday morning.  In games involving local teams, Eisenhower HS teammates Ella Ellis and Darious Goff guided the Houston Elite past the Texas Ambassadors in the first round of bracket play.  On the adjacent court, head coach Royce Huseman was seated courtside observing his Kingwood Mustangs just miss on a near upset the South Texas Stallions (coached by Ilena Martinez, one of the top female 17s summer coaches in America).   This should be an early signal for opposing high school coaches in the area to take notice of how Kingwood HS could be next season.  Despite playing without 2 guaranteed starters, the Mustangs actually led with less than 4:00 to go.  In other first round action, Wheatley’s Carlos Cook drilled a 22 footer at the buzzer to lift the Houston Select Black past the Houston Knights in a game that needed overtime to decide.

SATURDAY MORNING UPDATE:
One of the favorites, Team Breakdown knocked off Rashard Lewis Southeast Texas Elite and the Texas Blue Chips to emerge from pool play with the top seed.
Houston Elite 47 Oakland Rebels 21,  Houston Gold 50  Str8 Ballers 26,  Tx Amb 42  Tx Lancers 39,  Hstn Lynx Blue 49  N Tx Select Wildcatas 38,  South Tx Stallions 60  La Blue Chips 49,  La Futures 68  Urban DFW 67,  Total Package 81  La Blue Chips Orange 69,  Goal Breakers 70  Pensacola Tornadoes 48.

FRIDAY RECAP:

It only took a single game for heralded All American, Renaldo Sidney to live up to the hype and earn instant street cred from the Houston fans.  Sidney scored at will while leading Los Angeles Dream Team to a (61-46) victory over Louisiana Future.   The Houston Select Black and White teams both cruised to lopsided first round wins over very respectable opponents.  Select Black beat defending champ Louisiana Blue Chips (67-49) while Select White absolutely destroyed Team Genesis (60-24) who were without inside presence Tank Mayberry 6′10 c.  Select White 6′6 pf Kenny Anyigbo suffered a mild ankle injury in the first half but later returned to complete a doulbe double performance.  Sophs Jamel Outler, Anthony Collins, and pg Aaron Hartwell did most of the damage in the win.   The Houston Lynx Blue were guided by unsigned seniors Jack Hill and Jared Maree in their 18pt win over Louisiana Select Hoops.  In the nightcap, the senior laden Texas Blue Chips jumped out to an early lead and held off a late rally to knock off Rashard Lewis Southeast Texas Elite (57-54).  Ozen soph pg DeCarlos Frank led all scorers with 18pts in the loss.
