SUNDAY UPDATE:
The myths and rumors have been put to rest. The Houston Select White (aka 16s) have once again outlasted their older Houston Select Black (17s) team while playing in the same age bracket. Thus confirming they are really indeed the better of the Select club teams. Behind the consistent guard play, the Select White knocked off the defending champion Louisiana Blue Chips to advance into a semi final test against the Los Angeles Dream Team (who beat J Prince Hoopstars in the quarters). The 1pm semi final game never materialized since LA Dream Team actually had to leave to catch their flight back home. This gave the young Houston Select White team a pass into the championship game. In other quarterfinal action, the Texas Blue Chips eliminated the Houston Select Black while the Dallas Mustangs were ousted by host team Houston Elite.

SATURDAY AFTERNOON UPDATE:
Team Breakdown (FL) and the Los Angeles Dream Team will square off in the second round of bracket play. It’s sad, but one of these teams can sleep as late as they want on Sunday morning. In games involving local teams, Eisenhower HS teammates Ella Ellis and Darious Goff guided the Houston Elite past the Texas Ambassadors in the first round of bracket play. On the adjacent court, head coach Royce Huseman was seated courtside observing his Kingwood Mustangs just miss on a near upset the South Texas Stallions (coached by Ilena Martinez, one of the top female 17s summer coaches in America). This should be an early signal for opposing high school coaches in the area to take notice of how Kingwood HS could be next season. Despite playing without 2 guaranteed starters, the Mustangs actually led with less than 4:00 to go. In other first round action, Wheatley’s Carlos Cook drilled a 22 footer at the buzzer to lift the Houston Select Black past the Houston Knights in a game that needed overtime to decide.

SATURDAY MORNING UPDATE:
One of the favorites, Team Breakdown knocked off Rashard Lewis Southeast Texas Elite and the Texas Blue Chips to emerge from pool play with the top seed.

RESULTS: REEBOK PEARLAND CLASSIC
The Louisiana Blue Chips jumped out to a 45-28 halftime lead and cruised to a 82-73 win over Play Hard Play Smart (CA) in the championship game of the Reebok Pearland Classic. Guards Marquis Harris and Jeremy Johnson (15pts in first half) did whatever they wanted to do against the talented Cali backcourt, Jamel Barrett and Nate Garth. Actually, Johnson (a 6′2 unsigned senior pg at New Orleans East Jefferson HS) flat out demolished every single person who attempted to guard him this past weekend.
The LBC’s road to the championship consisted of won games over Fort Worth MASH, Texas Ambassadors-Austin, Urban DFW Black, T Mac All Stars, Dallas Slam, and Urban DFW Elite. More impressive was the fact that the Louisiana Blue Chips played without two of their most recruited stars, Travis Jackson (missed team bus) and Brandon Moore (played with Texas Blue Chips). Also, the team is coached by Anthony Q. Anderson, head coach at Dillard University in New Orleans (and former coach at SMU and Miami). This was the perfect platform to audition his sideline talents (in front of dozens of college coaches) in hopes of returning to the D1 level. *More details in VIP ROOM*

Check out front page for article regarding TMac’s repeat at the Pearland Texas Classic. Once again, here are the 1st Place results:
17s: T Mac All Stars 57     Hstn Hoopstars 40
Semis: Hstn Hoopstars def Hstn Pride, T Mac advanced over Hstn Elite (ff)
MVP:Â Larry Davis 6′3 (Hastings HS)
16s: Dallas Mustangs 48      Hstn Hoops 16s 46
Semis: Hstn Hoops def Hstn Select, Dallas Mustangs 66  Tx Hoopstars 41
15s: Hstn Elite 62    Westside All Stars 60 (2OT)
Semis: Westside All Stars 41  Total Package 39,  Hstn Elite def Hstn Select
MVP:Â Eze Akwari 6′2 (St Pius X High School)
14s: Hstn Hoops 77    Hstn Select 70
Semis: Hstn Select 72   Sports Academy (LA) 37, Hstn Hoops def Hstn Elite
MVP:Â Brandon Peters 6′0 (Ryan MS)

Now here are a few extra notes from the event:
1) In the semis, due to a shortage of refs available on premises, the Houston Elite & T Mac All Stars were forced to wait until the Hstn Elite finally decided to step aside and grant T Mac a pass into the championship game. “When good company doesn’t have anywhere to sleep, give up your bed,” cited event director and Hstn Elite coach Rick Nelson while giving a good stab at a Hicks-ism to support his decision. Â
2) Texas A&M’s Billy Gillespie and TSU’s Ronnie Courtney were the only two head coaches still left in the building by the time the championship game got underway. Also, Louisiana Tech, Rice, Holy Cross, and St Edwards were the only other schools still grinding at day’s end…
3) Former assistant coaches (Arizona St) Tony Benford, (SMU) “Q” Anderson, (Prairie View) Byron Rimm was checking out the action and doing their homework in wake of landing expected gigs within the next week or so. Heck, Rimm so loved PV enough to still wear a shirt with the school’s logo on the front.Â
4) Now you guys see why Nathan Walkup (Hstn Hoopstars) is listed as the #6 player in Greater Houston (and that may be too doggone low). LSU caught a glimpse of the long slender yet tough wing forward, is expected to visit the school this week to officially extend an offer.  Still, Texas A&M will be tough to beat on this one.
5)  DeAndre Jordan injured his leg early in the second half of the Swoosh Blue’s loss to the Hoopstars.   He’s probable for the Kingwood Classic.
6)Â Texas Blue Chips had the tallest frontcourt of the event, but managed to go only 1-3 (including a pair of double digit losses to Hoopstars and Westside All Stars)
7) After beating Houston Elite at the Spring Ice Breaker and Texas Blue Chips & both Houston Swoosh teams this past weekend, Westside All Stars coach Al Jones proclaimed, “Yo, we are the number one Reebok team in Texas!” Whoaaa nelly… the Dallas Mustangs Blue coaches do read this board.Â
8) Coaches and teams were forced to wait while the teams were re-seeded after pool play ended. Afterwards, the event’s defending champ T-Mac (who went 2-0 in pool play) didn’t get a bye while the Lousiana Stars 16s did.
9)  Meech Goodson (Hstn Select) did not play after suffering a wrist injury in the second round of bracket play. He’s doubtful for the KWC.
10)  Toney McCray (TJ Ford Elite) is back to his old form after sitting out the entire HS season (per doctor’s orders) with minor heart precautions. McCray 6′6 wf (Elkins HS 2007) burst onto the scene with a barrage of three pointers at last year’s Vegas Super 64
11) Host team Hstn Elite advanced into the semis of each age division. Hstn Select advanced into the semis of each age division, except 17s. Â
12) Byron Gibson who normally coaches the Hstn Hoops 17s didn’t travel to Vegas, instead he chose to coach his newly formed Hstn Hoops 16s team that has been together only two weeks. Still, they managed to advance to the title game, and received a big tournament from Kevin Foster 6′2 wf (Morton Ranch HS). Â
